Recruiting Periods

If you've ever been confused why NCAA college coaches are restricted from speaking with you or attending games, tournaments or otherwise, don't worry...everyone is. But below are four definitions that will help you better understand the recruiting calendar.

  1. Contact period - permissible for authorized athletic department staff members to make in-person, off-campus recruiting contacts and evaluations.
  2. Dead period - not permissible to make in-person recruiting contacts or evaluations on- or off-campus or permit official or unofficial visits.
  3. Evaluation period - permissible for authorized athletics department  staff to be involved in off-campus activities to assess academic qualifications and playing abililties. No in-person, off-campus recruiting contacts with a prospect are permitted.
  4. Quiet period - permissible to make in-person recruiting contacts only on the member institution's campus.
